The Cotton Cordell Pencil Popper is one of the most underrated topwater baits on the market. It's a standard tool for striper fishing and has an action and sound that will elicit strikes from pressured bass. I have been using Cordells Pencil Poppers for the last 5 summers on eastern Long Island. I catch both stripers and blues on these from early spring to late fall. They have great action for any kind of retrieve and perfect for slow moving water of 8-10 foot depth and they are also good for ocean fishing. I use both the 6 and 7 inch in both the black and chrome and blue and chrome finish. Blues will go after either but stripers seem to perfer the black and chrome when bunker and mullet are running. Its a great lure and a great price, you really can not go wrong with them.

Tried this out today for the first time, didn't have the right rod so I wasn't getting great distance with casts but still had the fish hitting it. Was very pleased with the action from this lure and will be keeping this around when surf fishing

'load them up and shoot them out" my favorite lure for stripers! Too bad the factory doesn't weight them and add the rattle bbs like other designs. We prefer 2.4 to 2.6 ounces for long flutter free casts.
